5 Easy Ways to Cut Your RV Insurance Bill

Posted on

Paying insurance can get expensive, which is why it is always great to find new ways to reduce your insurance bill, even if it is only by a couple of dollars here and there. If you own an RV, make sure that you take advantage of the following five easy ways to save on insurance.

Consider Getting a CDL License

Although you do not need a commercial driver's license, or CDL, in order to drive an RV, you can score lower rates on your insurance policy if you do have one. A CDL will show your insurance company that you have the proper skills and knowledge needed to navigate a large rig down the road without causing an accident.

Take a Driving Class

If you don't want to spring for a CDL just to drive your RV on occasion, you should at least think about signing up for a driver safety class. These classes generally do not cost very much money and generally only take up a couple hours of your time; however, you can generally receive a discount for a few years from your auto insurance company if you take an approved driver safety class.

Install Security Features

If your RV does not already come equipped with security features such as an audible car alarm, swing on by your local RV dealership and see about having one installed. Having an audible car alarm is a great way to get an easy discount on your insurance and keep your vehicle safe as well.

Another way to save on your insurance is by installing a tracking device on your RV. That way, if it ever gets stolen, it will be extremely easy for the police to find. When your insurance company knows that you have a way to keep track of your vehicle at all times, they are likely to reward you with some sort of discount.

Bundle Up

If you really want to save on your insurance, bundle up. The more types of insurance you bundle, the more you tend to save. If you can, try to purchase your auto insurance, homeowners insurance, RV insurance, and any other type of vehicular, home, or business insurance that you need through the same company. It is a simple way to reduce your insurance costs.

Join An RV Association

Finally, if you have not already, think about joining an RV association. An RV association will provide you with educational information about RVing and will help you connect with others who share your passion for RVing. Joining an RV association is also a great way to save on your auto insurance. Many insurance companies offer discounts to particular RV associations and clubs; ask your auto insurance agent which associations they partner with and give discounts to.

If you want to reduce the amount of money that you spend on RV insurance, make sure you take advantage of at least one or more of the pieces of advice listed above as soon as possible so you can start lowering your insurance rates. Make sure to ask your insurance providers which of these options will qualify you for a discount before you go ahead with it, and then enjoy the savings.
